| Bourbon | 6 oz | 3/4 cup |
| Maple syrup | 4 oz | 1/2 cup |
| Water, boiling | 1 lb | 2 cups |
Add dates and 1/4 cup whole milk to a food processor or blender; mix until it forms a rough paste.
Add date paste, remaining milk, and cake mix to a mixer bowl fitted with a paddle attachment.
Mix on low speed for 2 minutes; stop mixer and scrape bowl and paddle.
Mix batter on low speed an additional 2 minutes, then spread batter into a well-greased, full-size hotel pan.
Sprinkle brown sugar on evenly, then pour over melted butter, bourbon, and maple syrup.
Pour on boiling water evenly over the mixture, then immediately place in oven.
Bake as directed until the top is golden brown and the center remains slightly jiggly.
Cool for 5 minutes, cut in a 6x4 pattern; serve warm.
